Do I need to empty drawers before moving house?
In most cases, you do not need to empty drawers completely before moving house if they only contain lightweight items such as clothes, bedding or other soft furnishings. These items can often stay inside chests of drawers to save time and reduce packing. However, heavy items such as books, files, magazines or anything fragile should always be removed. Flat-pack or self-assembly furniture should also be emptied fully because it is more likely to weaken or shift during transport. If you are unsure, a professional removals company can advise during the survey stage so your furniture is moved safely.
How much does a removals company cost for a house move?
The cost of a house removal depends on the size of your property, the volume of belongings, the distance between addresses, access at both properties and whether you need extra services such as packing, dismantling furniture or storage. Because every move is different, the best way to get an accurate price is through a free home survey and tailored quotation. This allows the removals company to assess how many staff are needed, what size vehicle is required and whether any specialist handling is involved. A proper quote is always more useful than a rough estimate because it is based on the details of your move.
How much notice should I give when booking a removals company?
It is best to give as much notice as possible when booking a removals company, especially if you want a specific moving date or are planning to move during a busy period. In many cases, around 7 to 10 days’ notice is enough, but earlier is always better. More notice gives you a better choice of dates and allows more time for planning, packing and organising any storage or specialist services. If your move is urgent, it is still worth asking, as some removal companies can help at short notice depending on availability.
What areas do you cover for removals within the UK and abroad?
We cover local, national and international removals. That includes household and commercial moves across Cheshire, Wirral, Merseyside, Liverpool and the wider North West, as well as moves throughout the UK, Europe and worldwide. Whether you are moving a family home, relocating a business or planning an overseas move, the process can be managed from start to finish. For international removals, trusted transport networks and experienced logistics planning help ensure your belongings reach their destination safely and efficiently.
What size removal vehicles do you use for home and business moves?
Removal companies use different vehicle sizes to match the type and volume of each move. Our fleet ranges from 3.5 tonne Luton box vans to 17 tonne purpose-built removal vehicles. Smaller vehicles are ideal for flats, smaller properties and partial moves, while larger vehicles are better for full house removals, office relocations and larger commercial projects. Using the right size vehicle helps make the move more efficient and can reduce unnecessary cost.
Do you dismantle and reassemble beds, wardrobes and other furniture?
Furniture dismantling and reassembly can usually be provided as part of a removals service, but this should be agreed in advance at the quotation stage. Items such as beds, wardrobes and large tables often need to be taken apart to move safely and fit through doorways or staircases. If dismantling and reassembly have not been included in the quotation, it is generally expected that these items will be prepared before moving day. Discussing this early helps avoid delays and ensures the removal team arrives fully prepared.
Should I empty and defrost my freezer before moving day?
Yes, it is usually best to empty and defrost your freezer before moving day. This makes it lighter, cleaner and safer to transport, and it reduces the risk of water leakage during the move. For local removals, if there are still a small number of frozen items left, the freezer may be loaded last and unloaded first to keep disruption to a minimum. For longer-distance moves, fully emptying and defrosting the freezer is strongly recommended. Planning this a few days in advance can make moving day much easier.
Can a removals company transport gas bottles, petrol, paint or flammable liquids?
No, gas cylinders, petrol, flammable liquids and other hazardous materials should not be transported on a removal vehicle. These items are usually excluded for safety and insurance reasons. That includes fuels, solvents, certain paints and chemicals, as well as anything highly combustible. Equipment such as lawnmowers, chainsaws and similar machinery should be fully drained of fuel and oil before the move. If you are unsure whether an item can be taken, it is always best to ask before moving day so alternative arrangements can be made.
Will your removal team clear my loft and place items into the loft at my new house?
A removals team may be able to help with loft items, but only if the loft is safe to access. In most cases, the loft must have a fitted staircase, solid boarding and proper lighting for insurance and safety reasons. If access is only by ladder, or if the loft is not boarded and lit, staff may not be able to enter. It is best to empty loft spaces in advance or discuss the situation during your survey so the safest option can be agreed before moving day.
Will you put furniture and boxes in the rooms I want at my new property?
Yes, removal staff will place furniture and boxes in the rooms you want wherever possible. This is one of the main advantages of using a professional removals company rather than simply hiring a van. It helps to have a clear idea in advance of where larger items should go, especially beds, wardrobes, sofas and white goods. Good planning on moving day saves time and makes settling into your new home much easier. While the team will do their best to place items correctly first time, repeated rearranging may not always be practical once unloading is underway.
What size are your storage containers and how much furniture do they hold?
Our storage containers are approximately 7ft by 5ft by 7ft and hold around 250 cubic feet. This is a standard industry size and is suitable for a wide range of household and business storage needs. A container of this size can typically hold the contents of a room or a carefully packed selection of furniture, boxes and personal belongings. Because the containers are designed for direct loading and handling, they help reduce unnecessary movement of your goods and support a more secure storage process.
How long can I keep my belongings in storage?
You can usually keep your belongings in storage for as short or as long a time as needed. This makes storage suitable for both short-term and long-term requirements. Some customers need storage for a few weeks while moving house or renovating, while others need ongoing furniture storage, archive storage or business storage for much longer periods. Flexible storage terms are helpful because they allow you to adjust your plans without rushing decisions about your belongings.
How do I pay for removals and storage services?
Removals and storage services can usually be paid for by debit card, credit card, bank transfer or cheque, depending on the provider. For longer-term storage, standing order is often the most popular payment method because it is simple and easy to manage. Payment options should always be explained clearly in your quotation or storage agreement so you know exactly what is due and when. If you have a preferred payment method, it is worth checking at the booking stage.
What items cannot be stored in a storage container or warehouse?
Certain items cannot be accepted into storage because of safety, hygiene and insurance restrictions. These usually include flammable goods, gas bottles, hazardous chemicals, perishable food, open food containers and live plants. Liquids such as oils and sauces are also commonly excluded if they have been opened. These rules help protect your goods, the warehouse and other customers’ items. If you are unsure about a specific item, it is always best to ask before your storage collection or drop-off date.
Can I access my furniture and boxes while they are in storage?
Yes, access to stored goods can usually be arranged, but it often needs to be booked in advance. With containerised storage, your goods may need to be carefully located, moved and prepared by the warehouse team before access is possible. Because of that, as much notice as possible is helpful and a handling charge may apply. If regular access is important to you, it is worth discussing this before booking storage so the most suitable storage option can be recommended.
